Legal Counsel (R&D)

This position requires a minimum of 2 days per week on site.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role as legal business partner, you will provide comprehensive legal expert advice within cross-functional, international teams, focusing on translating business objectives into enforceable legal deliverables, enhancing understanding of legal risks, and supporting decision-making across the business, with a particular emphasis on intellectual property topics and international contract law.
  • You will partner closely with our R&D functions and provide guidance and direction for strategic projects and corporate policies & procedures, advise on a broad range of legal topics pertinent to scientific collaborations and development activities within a research-driven globally operating pharmaceutical company, and foster cross-functional collaboration and alignment.
  • Moreover, you will draft, review, negotiate, and handle various complex contracts, such as research collaborations, on corporate level of the Boehringer Ingelheim Group, as well as drive our excellence initiatives in standardization and future-proofing of contracting processes.
  • As integral part of a team that values innovation and is driven by bringing real value to patients, you will collaborate closely with colleagues from our Global Legal & Compliance function, as well as from Patents, Sourcing, and Business Development & Licensing.

Requirements

  • Experienced lawyer with excellent qualifications – fully qualified lawyer (“Volljurist*in”) or foreign equivalent with several years of post-qualification professional  experience, preferably as in-house counsel within the life sciences sector or other innovative industries
  • Strong knowledge and experience in international contract law, well-versed in structuring and negotiating contracts, as well as in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks
  • Experience in working within a global environment with the ability to operate in a highly complex matrix environment; experience at a law firm with clients from these sectors is also highly valued and a plus
  • Understanding of economic and strategic aspects, such as organizational structures, business processes, industry trends, and willingness to assume responsibility
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, who can influence others, stay committed, and always seek solutions
  • Excellent analytical skills with strategic and long-term thinking, ability to analyze and communicate risk and good judgment
  • Proficient in English, German language skills are a plus
