You will gain an insight into the following topics and areas of activities:
- Support the synthesis of new molecules to support lead generation and lead optimization projects targeting innovative biological pathways.
- Plan and execute organic chemistry experiments, including purification (e.g., chromatography) and characterization of new molecular entities.
- Analyze experimental data (e.g. by NMR and LC-MS), interpret results, and document findings in electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Conduct scientific literature searches to gather information on synthetic methods and reaction mechanisms.
- Explore and optimize synthetic routes with the focus on improving scope, yield and scalability.
- Follow laboratory safety protocols and ensure compliance with internal standards.
Your Profile:
- Completed master’s degree in organic chemistry (PhD students in their last years of doctoral studies is a plus).
- Comprehensive and state of the art knowledge of organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms.
- Hands-on experience with different laboratory reaction setups, including inert atmosphere techniques and purification methods.
- Experience in analytical techniques for reaction monitoring and characterization of molecules (NMR, LC-MS).
- Proficiency in scientific searching engines such as Reaxys or Scifinder and chemical drawing tools.
- Intercultural competencies, ideally shown by experience abroad.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English (good command in German is a plus).
- (A valid residency permit that covers the entire duration of the internship and authorizes participation in student internships in Germany is a mandatory requirement.)
What we can offer you:
- As a student intern, you can expect a fair expense allowance (payment of the currently valid minimum wage)
- You will be given 2.5 days of paid time off for every full month of the internship
- A full-time internship is 37.5 hours a week (a smaller number of hours can be arranged)
The duration of the internship is 4-6 months. The start of the internship can be made several times a year. Please enter the desired period in your application.
