Associate Director / Team Lead Computational Biology

The Position

We are seeking a scientifically driven Associate Director to lead our Computational Biology team focused on Inflammatory and Respiratory diseases in Biberach. In this role, you will be part of a global team driving computational innovation in drug discovery, collaborating with scientists across the global Inflammatory and Respiratory therapeutic area to identify and validate novel drug targets, and accelerating discovery using advanced data science and computational biology approaches. You will champion the integration of multi-omics, human genetics, imaging, and clinical data with cutting-edge computational approaches as a foundation to drive innovation by leveraging both internal and external collaborations and capabilities.
As a key member of our growing Computational Innovation Department (@computationalinnovation), you will shape the strategic direction of computational biology within Inflammatory and Respiratory diseases, contributing to the discovery and development of transformative therapies that improve patients’ lives. 

This position has a hybrid setup with approximately 2-3 days per week on site.

This position is part time eligible with min. 80%.

Tasks & responsibilities

In your new role you will

  • lead and mentor a high-performing team of computational biologists to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and scientific excellence.
  • act as the primary contact to the Inflammatory and Respiratory therapeutic area at the Biberach site, ensuring alignment across the therapeutic area portfolio.
  • provide strategic and scientific leadership to drive project execution and support team development.
  • design, apply, and integrate cutting-edge computational and statistical methods for target and biomarker discovery in Inflammatory and Respiratory diseases.
  • establish and maintain rigorous standards for data analysis to ensure quality, integrity, and reproducibility of results.
  • translate complex computational insights into clear and actionable recommendations for multidisciplinary project teams.

Additional tasks for the Associate Director position

You will

  • influence and implement the computational biology strategy within the Innovation Unit.
  • lead complex cross functional projects and external collaborations and ensure impact on the drug discovery pipeline.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field with a proven track record of scientific and pharmaceutical achievements, ideally applied to Inflammatory and Respiratory diseases
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in computational sciences applied to drug discovery, including professional industry experience within pharmaceutical or biotechnology organizations 
  • Strong leadership abilities, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and mentoring scientists to achieve their full potential
  • Demonstrated expertise in computational target identification and biomarker discovery
  • Proficiency in computational methods, stakeholder management, and delivering interdisciplinary projects
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences

Additional requirements for the Associate Director position

  • Long term professional industry experience in computational sciences applied to drug discovery, including several years’ experience in line management within pharmaceutical or biotechnology organizations
