(Senior) Data Scientist

The Position

In this role as (Senior) Data Scientist, you will be a key member of IT Research, Development & Medicine (RDM). You will not only be responsible for designing and building computational models, discovering insights, and identifying opportunities within the Agentic AI landscape and Laboratory Notebook Informatics but also provide technical and inspirational leadership for large language model related topics, including prompt engineering, and will develop and mentor more junior colleagues.

This position can be filled in Ingelheim or Biberach.

This position can be filled either as Data Scientist or Senior Data Scientist.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your role you will have to understand and solve complex business problems utilizing Data Science solutions in a rapidly changing environment, adapting new technologies and practices (machine learning / GenAI).
  • You will independently lead data science solution development and deployment to deliver projects across functions with internal or external parties through a high level of data science expertise.
  • By collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to understand data, IT, and business constraints, you will implement and deploy scalable solutions.
  • Furthermore, you will actively network on a regular basis with domain experts, internal and external partners to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange with other data science teams within and outside the organization, thereby establishing communities and partnerships.

Additional tasks for Senior Data Scientist

  • You will have to stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI and machine learning and apply cutting-edge techniques to improve model performance and scalability.
  • In addition, strategically guiding the organization towards realizing the business potential of AI will be part of your role.
  • You will be responsible to quickly develop extensive domain knowledge in various topics relevant for the pharma industry.
  • Moreover, you will provide thought leadership by researching best practices, conducting experiments, and collaborating with industry leaders.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in computer science, data science, machine learning, or a related field such as natural sciences (physics, mathematics, bioinformatics) with first years of relevant experience in data science, with expertise in GenAI, especially Large Language Models (LLM), or a Bachelor's degree with more relevant experience
  • A PhD degree is beneficial
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages for data science like Python, ML libraries/frameworks (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and GenAI technologies (e.g. LLMs, Agentic AI, Vector Databases, Document extraction, Agent Communication Protocols, GANs, VAEs, or Diffusion Models)
  • Laboratory Notebook Informatics experience is beneficial
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and statistical methods
  • Analytical skills, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with complex datasets
  • Excellent English (oral and written) and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, German is a plus

Additional requirements for Senior Data Scientist

  • Several years of relevant experience in data science, with expertise in GenAI, especially Large Language Models (LLM), ideally in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Expertise in software development practices, including version control (Git), CI/CD, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
