Head of Medical Affairs IOMH (m/f/d)

The position

This role drives the development and execution of Medical Affairs strategies across the full lifecycle of Boehringer Ingelheim products, from pre- to post-launch for the Therapeutic Area Inflammation, Oncology, Mental Health (IOMH). The Medical lead of this area partners closely with Marketing, Market Access, Clinical Development, and Patient Advocacy, while collaborating cross-functionally with local, regional, and global stakeholders to ensure alignment with overarching priorities. By delivering clear scientific guidance and clinically meaningful insights, the role enables optimal patient access to our therapies and contributes to the growth of the prescription healthcare business.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Drives the translation and execution of Medical Affairs (MA) strategy across the full product lifecycle, including early engagement pre-launch and co-development of post-launch strategies, to ensure product acceptance, growth, and profitability
  • Provides strategic medical leadership to cross-functional teams, enabling a patient-centric approach and maximizing the value of BI medications across the lifecycle
  • Ensures robust generation and communication of clinical data, supporting the local OPU in demonstrating safety and efficacy, and driving compliant engagement with external experts
  • Leads the planning and execution of all local MA activities, including studies, publications, and programs, in alignment with broader strategic priorities
  • Builds and develops a high-performing MA organization by attracting, developing, and retaining talent, and fostering strong collaboration across MA, ROPU, and regional stakeholders
  • Ensures effective leadership and governance through performance management, talent development, succession planning, coaching, and maintaining appropriate team structure and resourcing

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a pharmaceutical Medical Affairs / medical role
  • Proven leadership experience, including leading projects, teams, or business functions
  • Fluent in English; German or French is a plus
  • Strong, approachable leader with a growth mindset and drive for continuous improvement
  • Strategic and critical thinker with the confidence to challenge the status quo
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with high integrity and ethical standards
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and work effectively in diverse, cross-functional teams
