The Principal Engineer, Mechanical will share in the duties of supporting Capital Engineering and Facilities engineering regarding mechanical infrastructure projects. This position will be delegated tasks of implementing expense/repair projects in line with the strategic plan of the company as directed by supervisor. These projects will include the construction/renovation of facilities, installation of equipment, or design. This role is a designated Subject Matter Expert for mechanical systems and projects within the organization. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Aids in data gathering, design, estimating, proposal and implementation of mechanical projects.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, federal, and international codes and regulations.
  • Works with cGMP manufacturing and safety procedural guidelines.
  • Reviews equipment shop drawings for conformance to project specifications.
  • Edits, reviews and approves project drawings.
  • Develops scopes and drawings for various projects.
  • Reads and interprets mechanical drawings and P&IDs; Ability to update as required for change control and accuracy.
  • Assists with mechanical design, estimating, proposals and implementation of projects and equipment modifications within the mechanical and engineering groups.
  • Responsible for all aspects of designated mechanical systems projects to include assisting Capital Engineering with research activities.
  • Develop and revise operational procedures (SOPs), change requests, event reports, investigations, and maintenance engineering documentation 
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to reduce annual operating costs through operational efficiencies, new technologies, and energy reduction initiatives
  • Monitor equipment downtime and define corrective actions to optimize equipment performance
  • Establish and oversee predictive maintenance programs for Utilities, including vibration analysis, ultrasound, thermography, lubrication, eddy current testing, motor current analysis, thickness testing, and other applicable technologies

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required and a minimum of three (3) years mechanical systems experience, preferably in a design firm setting.
  • Professional experience must be inclusive of at least one (1) year demonstrated experience in leading projects.
  • Experience in design and specification of HVAC, plant utility, and plumbing systems required.
  • Experience in development of BMS control concepts and basic system P&IDs required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD required.
  • Experience with building/mechanical/plumbing/electrical codes required.
  • Knowledge of GxP manufacturing and lab environments preferred.
  • FE registration or completion preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills in all forms (face-to-face, telephone, video, and written) required.
  • Must understand and practice basic financial & accounting methods and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and work within a regulated GMP or similar environment.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities

  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance teams to support daily utilities operations
  • Collaborate with Center Procurement to develop purchasing strategies for energy commodities (e.g., electricity and fuel oil) and support development of the site’s annual energy budgets
  • Analyze CMMS failure data, identify trends, perform root cause analyses, and implement actions to prevent recurrence of failures
