Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and creative Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our Future Innovation team in the Parasitology Research department located in Athens, GA. This position is part of the global Boehringer Ingelheim Post-Doctoral Program https://careers.boehringer-ingelheim.com/post-doc/ As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, you will be a primary driver of an innovative research project on the immunology of filarial parasite infections. Identification of pathways that play a role in the host-pathogen interactions will support discovery and development of novel approaches to prevent parasitic disease. Strong skills in molecular parasitology, nematode research experience and multidisciplinary approaches will be a foundation for this project. Post-Doctoral Fellows are expected to independently conduct research and publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contributes to portfolio of early-stage Molecular Assay Development and Target Validation Parasitology projects such as target identification and validation, in coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Contributes to internal research activities including hypothesis generation and experimental design, assay development and performance, and data acquisition and interpretation.
  • Provides Parasitology Research with laboratory expertise in electrophysiology to meet Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health’s innovation needs.
  • Performs customary scientific/lab duties without supervision.
  • Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoots effectively to solve technical and scientific problems
  • Independently applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps up to date on literature in own field.
  • Works closely with the other scientists within the Molecular Assay Development and Target Validation Parasitology unit to drive innovative projects with sound scientific reasoning and creative experimental approaches.
  • Works collaboratively within the broader Parasitology Research function and when applicable across broader Global innovation Functions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrophysiology techniques (patch-clamp, multi-electrode recordings) and pharmacological regulators of ion channel physiology is a must have.
  • Strong background in experimental design, data analysis and relevant software tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Familiarity with drug screening and pharmacological modulation of ion channels.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
