This role will drive and shape the digital transformation of the Athens Site by identifying, testing, piloting, and supporting the implementation of cutting-edge digital solutions (e.g., automation, AI, large language models) to enhance operational excellence. The position requires regulatory expertise, experience in GxP requirements and close collaboration with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to deliver impact across Boehringer Ingelheim. 0-10 Direct Reports.
Duties & Responsibilities
Digital Innovation & Implementation:
- Lead the exploration, evaluation, and deployment of innovative digital technologies to optimize processes.
- Efficiently, professionally and confidentially form and lead cross-functional projects and project teams and ensure excellent levels of customer service/stakeholder support are maintained while consistently evaluating how to improve and streamline processes.
- Identify, optimize and drive excellence by identifying synergies while considering the latest technology trends.
- Perform department activities as assigned and work independently as needed on special projects.
- Act as a subject matter key resource and may provide training for colleagues across the global business.
Technical Acumen:
- Possess broad technical and GxP knowledge to assess and recommend the most suitable digital solutions for the production space.
- Provide high quality subject matter expert level information, knowledge sharing and support proactively in the following areas: digital innovation, automation, data evaluation, analysis, reporting, systems, implementation, etc. as requested.
- Drive the Athens digital evolution by challenging existing capabilities and providing/piloting new innovative solutions. These include disruptive solutions that are not obvious or known within the company, but make a strong contribution to the digital strategy at Boehringer.
- Consolidate, break down, and present findings from the pilots and experiment phases with a clear recommendation to senior management.
- Act as a mentor and trainer for both global and local colleagues.
Scouting and External Collaboration:
- Strong collaboration with external vendors / technology networks (e.g. establishing pilots, evaluations for external knowledge services and quality intelligence as well as forming development partnerships with technology companies to demonstrate potential value for investments).
- Scouting for key digital trends inside and outside pharma to redefine capabilities together with multidisciplinary business teams and in close collaboration with other scouting teams at Boehringer.
- Selecting the appropriate digital solutions and introducing them to Boehringer internal teams.
- Representation at key global internal and external digital forums, including developing key external networks to understand the dynamic landscape.
Change Management:
- Design, Lead and implement Organizational Change Management with respect to digital solutions.
- Lead teams through digital transformation with a focus on all ethical aspects from a digital perspective, cultural differences, generational differences, and how people behave and their unique needs during the adoption of new digital solutions.
Regulatory Expertise:
- Maintain a strong understanding of local and global requirements, with a focus on GxP requirements and regulatory guidelines
- Perform all Company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g. EMA, FDA, etc.), GxP and Company policies and procedures.
- Ensure functional excellence of the team through assisting with the hiring, developing and retaining key talent. When direct reports are assigned, build and maintain a highly skilled workforce of energized employees through hiring, developing, and retaining talents.
Requirements
- A Degree in life sciences / data science, or similar qualification; focus on life sciences/data science, and/or digital solutions. Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years experience working in project or program leadership role or digital leadership role. Experience within a GxP/Compliance environment strongly preferred.
- Drive, dedication and commitment to shape quickly evolving innovation initiatives combined with team spirit and an integrative personality.
- Strong passion for life sciences, technology and data including a strong technical knowledge.
- Ability to influence and lead change, including the ability to present coherent strategies and influence decision-makers at a senior management level, is required.

Demonstrated success in projects and initiatives aimed at implementing customer-oriented and measurable data and process improvements. - Ability to simplify complex content to adapt to audience needs and understanding (internal/external).
