As Market Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in defining how Boehringer Ingelheim will enter and win in the Dutch out of-pocket (OOP) metabolic health market. You will map the future landscape, anticipate barriers, and identify opportunities across channels—ranging from first‑line care to retail and online platforms. You will create the strategic foundation for one of our most important future launches.
Your insights and recommendations will shape the direction of our launch preparations and commercial investments.
This critical role sits within the Dutch OPU and reports directly to the Head of Therapeutic Area (TA) CRM.

HOW YOU'LL FIT IN:
- Develop Market Development Roadmap for GLP-1/Glucagon, guiding BI’s strategic positioning towards a new product launch.
- Build a deep understanding of the Dutch OOP metabolic health market, consumer behaviors, adoption barriers, and competitive dynamics.
- Conduct scenario planning and opportunity sizing across retail, online pharmacies, e‑commerce, and emerging digital purchase journeys.
- Translate market insights into go‑to‑market options, stakeholder strategies, and capability requirements.
- Lead pricing, willingness‑to‑pay analyses and simulation of OOP purchasing behavior.
- Leverage first-line (GP) insights to map potential referral flows and understand relevance in OOP context.
- Partner closely with cross‑functional colleagues (Marketing, Medical, Market Access, Digital, Finance) to ensure aligned strategic direction.
- Track competitive developments, evolving GLP‑1 market and policy changes to inform leadership decisions.
- Use launch experience to anticipate organizational, capability, and resource needs well ahead of launch.
- Prepare insight-based recommendations for senior leadership to guide strategic investments.
YOU BRING:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Health Economics, Life Sciences or similar.
- At least 7 years of experience in pharma marketing, commercial strategy, market development & innovation.
- Proven launch experience, ideally in fast‑evolving or competitive therapeutic markets.
- Experience or affinity with primary care/GP dynamics and their influence on patient pathways.
- Solid understanding of retail, e‑commerce, or direct‑to‑consumer channels (required or major advantage).
- Ability to translate pharma expertise into a hybrid pharma‑consumer commercial model.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to convert data into actionable insights.
- Ability to influence and build alignment across cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Dutch language knowledge is preferred.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and high learning agility.
MUST BE STRONG IN
- Strategic Market Development & Commercial Acumen: able to interpret future market shifts, identify growth drivers, and design long-term roadmaps for market entry.
- Consumer, Retail & Digital Commerce Understanding: comfortable working with consumer insights, retail landscapes, and digital behavior to shape future OOP strategies.
- Insight Generation & Modelling: skilled in market research, pricing simulations, opportunity sizing, and funnel analysis.
- Cross‑Functional Leadership: ensures alignment across Medical, Market Access, Marketing, Digital, and Finance throughout the pre‑launch period.
- Change Leadership: able to navigate uncertainty, challenge assumptions, and shape BI NL’s capabilities for a market that will look entirely different by time of launch.
