THE OPPORTUNITY

The Lead Corporate Affairs (Netherlands) is responsible for leading the Corporate Affairs function across Communications and the Corporate Brand, including communications related to Public and Governmental Affairs, within the Dutch Operating Unit. The role develops, protects and promotes Boehringer Ingelheim’s corporate profile, brand and reputation with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring they are well informed about the business, its activities, products and services, and experience Boehringer Ingelheim as a trusted and valued partner.

In this role, the Lead Corporate Affairs fosters strong employee engagement through effective internal communications and positive leadership, supporting alignment with the company’s purpose, values and strategic priorities. 

The role holder is an active member of both the OPU (Operating Unit) Netherlands Management Team and the MIDI Corporate Affairs Team, contributing to the development and localization of campaigns, alignment on strategic topics and priorities, and ensuring tactical and operational coherence across Corporate Affairs within the MIDI region.

 

This position is based in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and reports directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs MIDI.

Please note: this is a temporary role (around 10 months duration).

 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute an effective internal communications strategy aligned with MIDI priorities and the local Communications agenda, ensuring employees in the Dutch Operating Unit are engaged with the organization’s strategy, objectives and activities, and understand and live the Boehringer Ingelheim purpose, values and behaviours.
  • Promote and protect Boehringer Ingelheim’s corporate profile, brand and reputation in the Netherlands, including management of social media channels and guidance to the business on social media tactics, to foster trust, partnerships and employer attractiveness.
  • In close collaboration with Market Access, Healthcare Affairs, Patient Engagement and other relevant Human Pharma and Animal Health functions, support communications related to Public and Government Affairs, including localization of corporate materials, participation in trade association workgroups, and communication support for public policy stakeholder engagements.
  • Set and prioritize local communications topics and campaigns across Human Pharma and Animal Health that deliver the highest business impact, supporting a favourable policy and stakeholder environment aligned with the Netherlands and MIDI priorities.
  • Design and execute integrated, strategic and campaign‑driven communications that increase product, disease and corporate awareness, and support sustainable and profitable portfolio growth across the Netherlands.
  • Act as crisis communications lead for OPU Netherlands, advising management, developing and delivering crisis communication and engagement plans, and ensuring reputational risks are minimized and business continuity is supported.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and sparring partner to the General Manager and OPU Management Team, providing strategic communications counsel for internal and external stakeholder engagement.

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Communication or related fields, including marketing or journalism.
  • Experienced in communications at operational level, both internally and externally, in a multi-national corporate environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Good understanding of the media landscape in the Netherlands.
  • Experienced in crisis communications.
  • Comfortable working in a matrix and cross‑functional environment, collaborating closely with leadership teams and specialist functions.
  • Ability to balance local, regional and global company interests.
  • Understanding of the Dutch political systems and processes and local industry association landscape is beneficial.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex internal stakeholder landscapes, balancing different agendas, expectations and sensitivities at senior leadership level.
  • High degree of adaptability to respond effectively to unforeseen events, changing circumstances or crisis situations without losing focus or control.
  • Excellent command of the Dutch & English languages.
