THE OPPORTUNITY

The Commercial Affairs & Partnerships Leader is accountable for driving Boehringer Ingelheim’s commercial strategy and strategic alliances across wholesalers, healthcare groups, health insurers, and pharmacy & hospital purchasing organizations to maximize performance within the Human Pharma division.

The role leads high‑level partnerships with key healthcare stakeholders, defines and implements local commercial policy, and drives operational excellence through strong team leadership and cross‑functional collaboration, while optimizing supply chain performance to support sustainable growth.

 

This position is based in Amsterdam and reports directly to the Head of Market Access & Public Affairs in the Netherlands.

This role offers an experienced Commercial Affairs & Partnerships professional the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by building strong partnerships, shaping commercial strategy, and contributing to the long‑term success of Boehringer Ingelheim in the Netherlands.

 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive commercial performance and gross‑to‑net optimization across all commercial agreements, defining and executing pricing, discount and margin strategies for wholesalers, hospitals and pharmacy purchase groups to ensure sustainable profitability.
  • Lead contracting, negotiation and strategic tendering activities, including negotiations with wholesalers and key partners, ensuring competitive positioning, compliance with regulations and alignment with business priorities.
  • Challenge conventional thinking and develop innovative, out‑of‑the‑box commercial solutions, identifying new opportunities in pricing models, partnerships, processes and ways of working to create sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Foster a high‑performance mindset by setting ambitious standards, demonstrating hunger for success and a winning mentality, continuously raising the bar for commercial excellence, accountability and results—both personally and across the team.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with wholesalers, hospital pharmacists and other key stakeholders across intra‑ and extramural distribution channels, value‑added care programs and emerging healthcare initiatives.
  • Translate overall business strategy into actionable commercial initiatives and strategic projects, working closely with Asset teams to define project plans and ensure effective execution.
  • Drive strong cross‑functional alignment, collaborating closely with the General Manager, Therapeutic Area Heads, Market Access, Controlling, Supply Chain and other key stakeholders to integrate commercial strategies across the organization.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Commercial Affairs team, optimizing team structure and responsibilities based on competencies, and fostering high performance, engagement and professional growth.
  • Act as a commercial subject‑matter expert for pharmacy, hospital and wholesaler dynamics, pricing, contracting and supply chain topics, while ensuring continuous development through up‑to‑date market knowledge, training and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE TEAM

  • Master degree, MBA and/or PhD, bachelor in Lifesciences, Medicine, Business Administration or similar.
  • At least 6-8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and field force.
  • At least 3-4 years of experience with wholesaler and hospital contracts.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Training in account management and/or project management is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch (native speaker) & English.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Data driven mindset & strong analytical skills.
  • Strong commercial drive & can-do attitude.
