Post Doctoral - Immunology
Description
The Postdoctoral Scientist will be responsible for expanding the understanding of host immune responses to microbial infection and immunological disease mechanisms; the pathogenesis and virulence mechanisms of bacteria and viruses, contributing to the discovery and the development of novel entities to control and prevent infectious diseases in animals. They will be responsible for the design, interpretation and presentation of experiments that utilize cutting-edge approaches and / or technologies as well as perform studies that follow established protocols.
The incumbent will be a part of a highly innovative, collaborative and expanding team of experienced immunologists in the bacterial diseases group. The Immunology team will provide strong mentorship and professional development of the postdocs while ensuring that the postdocs are assigned to appropriate projects. An individualized mentoring plan will be developed, and projects will be refined to maximize the benefit to the BI Bacterial Diseases Group’s portfolio.
This position is limited to 2 years, with the option of a one-year extension.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for a research project, with guidance from experienced mentors with an extensive background in academia and industry.
- Design, execute and interpret accurately experiments focused on innate and adaptive immune response with minimal supervision.
- Independently apply basic scientific principles and perform literature search to address pertinent questions related to the immune responses during disease.
- Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics.
- Ensure laboratory facilities and equipment are well maintained.
- Stay current with policies and SOPs regarding safe operations in the laboratory
- Comply with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.
- Effectively communicates and defends own work, orally and in writing, in the context of the company and team goals at meetings.
- Collaborate closely with members of the Immunology team, and potentially other experts across BI’s global research organization.
Requirements
- PhD or DVM-PhD from an accredited institution in Immunology, Microbial Pathogenesis, or a closely related field, with a good publication record
- A background in Immunology is required, including hands-on experience in primary cell isolation and culture, ELISA (and/or Luminex), qPCR, and other relevant basic laboratory techniques
- Experience with Western Blot, -omics and multiparameter Flow Cytometry is a plus
- Experience in modern Immunology is essential.
- Ability to build scientifically robust hypothesis and design experiments to test it, create written scientific reports and protocols, and strong verbal communication skills are required.
- The ability to function in multi-disciplinary teams is required.
- Ability to clearly articulate scientific concepts and implications of immunological data across functions.
- The role requires highly motivated, dependable, and well-organized individual who can operate with minimal supervision.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
