The Executive Director, Evidence Generation Lead converts Therapeutic Area (TA)/ Asset medical strategy into a prioritized, US-specific evidence plan and carries that plan through from evidence gap identification and prioritization to execution tracking, handoff for dissemination and impact review. The role is the single named owner of US evidence accountability for the assigned asset, disease state or evidence-need grouping.
The incumbent translates medical strategy, field medical signal, stakeholder engagement insight, medical inquiry data, published and competitive evidence landscape, external expert input and identified guideline and payer evidence gap into a prioritized US integrated evidence plan (IEP). The incumbent resolves competing priorities, determines the recommended funding and execution route for each question, advances the plan through the applicable evidence governance forum, and secures delivery and capacity commitments from key stakeholders (e.g. HEOR and Value & Access, Global Epidemiology, Grants & Research, external investigators and research vendors). The Evidence Generation Lead supports coordinated dissemination of generated evidence, ensuring dissemination strategy is aligned with prioritized evidence gaps, executed timely and is optimized.
The incumbent applies breadth across real-world evidence, interventional and non-interventional studies, externally sponsored and investigator-initiated research, as well as outcomes research to select appropriate pathways, engaging specialist methodological expertise as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Evidence Gap Identification and Translation:
Translates TA/Asset medical strategy, field medical input, stakeholder engagement insight, medical inquiry data and evidence landscape review into a prioritized list of US evidence gaps expressed as answerable evidence questions.
Gathers and synthesizes evidence needs and knowledge gaps from Medical Affairs strategy, MSL teams, the Stakeholder Strategy Lead, medical inquiry and contact center data, and impact and analytics reporting; from systematic review of the published evidence and competitive evidence landscape; from external expert, advisory board and investigator input; from guideline, payer evidence gaps identified with HEOR and Value & Access; and from Global evidence plans and read-across from completed BI studies.
Maintains the US evidence gap list and re-baselines priorities annually against measured impact and new information.
Prioritization, Routing and Governance:
Resolves competing TA evidence priorities into one integrated US evidence plan aligned with the Integrated Evidence Plan (IEP).
Recommends the evidence generation approach and study type for each prioritized question, including funding and execution route across internal HEOR, Global Epidemiology, externally sponsored and investigator-initiated research through Grants & Research, and vendor-delivered real-world evidence.
Assesses feasibility before routing, including availability and fitness for purpose of candidate real-world data sources, methodological fit, indicative cost, timing and internal or external capacity, and documents the basis for the recommended approach.
Develops each prioritized question into a concept sufficient for a governance decision and partner handoff (i.e., objective, rationale, proposed approach, indicative cost and timing) and prepares the funding case for the recommended route.
Advances the integrated US evidence plan through the applicable evidence governance forum and represents US evidence priorities in that forum.
Secures delivery, capacity and timeline commitments from executing partners once priorities and routes are confirmed and escalates unresolved feasibility or capacity constraints.

Requirements
Advanced degree in a relevant clinical or health sciences discipline from an accredited institution required. PharmD, PhD, MD with a minimum of eight (8) years, or MSc with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant pharmaceutical, biotechnology or healthcare industry experience. Experience must include demonstrated responsibility in evidence generation, Medical Affairs or clinical research and must span more than one evidence-generation pathway. Experience in a US-facing Medical Affairs environment is strongly preferred. Where the assigned scope is earlier-stage or pre-commercial, experience partnering with Clinical Development on lifecycle evidence planning is strongly preferred.
Proven ability to build and maintain an integrated evidence plan spanning multiple concurrent evidence questions and funding routes.
Strong prioritization and decision-making skills, including the ability to resolve competing therapeutic area priorities transparently and defensibly.
Demonstrated matrix leadership and ability to influence without authority across internal functions, Global partners and external collaborators.
Strong scientific and data interpretation skills sufficient to assess feasibility, methodological fit and relevance of proposed evidence approaches and to recognize when specialist expertise is required.
Ability to work through a separate publications function, supplying the evidence context it needs and tracking that completed evidence is routed, without owning publication or dissemination strategy.
Well-developed competency in portfolio tracking, dependency management, issue identification and timely escalation.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership stakeholders toward a shared vision of success.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present evidence rationale and impact to senior internal stakeholders and governance forums.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities
Execution Follow-Through and Escalation:
Tracks committed studies and evidence-generation activities against agreed timelines and deliverables.
Owns the handoff to executing functions, external investigators and vendors and maintains visibility of delivery status against US priorities.
Escalates to Medical Affairs strategy and US Medicine leadership when committed evidence priorities slip or when capacity or feasibility constraints place US priorities at risk, with sufficient lead time to support re-planning.
Handoff to Dissemination and Coordination with Publications:
Provides prioritized US evidence plan, the evidence questions behind it, the associated HCP knowledge gaps and anticipated study delivery timing to enable dissemination planning in alignment with US evidence needs.
Notifies the Publications group of completed and forthcoming studies within scope in time to be reflected in publication and congress planning cycles and confirms that each completed study has an identified dissemination route.
Provides scientific input to the Publications group on data interpretation, study context and evidence sequencing on request, without assuming ownership of publication or dissemination strategy, authorship decisions or content production.
Supplies evidence context to MSL & HEOR leadership, Medical Content & Channel Execution and the Stakeholder Strategy Lead where field medical, channel or engagement planning depends on forthcoming or completed evidence.
Impact Review and Refresh:
Reviews whether generated evidence changed practice, including shifts in stakeholder understanding, citation in the scientific literature, guideline inclusion and formulary or payer submission use.
Participates in the recurring Medical impact review forum, presents evidence-to-practice impact for the assigned scope and commits to resulting TA actions.
Feeds completed evidence and its implications back into TA medical strategy, field medical scientific priorities and the next TA planning cycle, so that generated data are incorporated into the TA and not only routed externally.
Administration and Compliance:
Confirms that evidence activities within scope are planned and documented in accordance with applicable BI policies, procedures and designated systems.
Supports budget planning and resource forecasting for evidence activity within the assigned scope.
Completes all required compliance and role-specific training within required timeframes.
