Principal Scientist, New Biological Entities PK/BA Group

Description

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist – Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) Lead and NBE PK Preclinical Project Team Representative to join the NBE Pharmacokinetic/Bioanalytical (BA/PK) group in the global Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) department. The position is located at our US research site in Ridgefield, CT.

 

As a member of the DDS US department, the successful Principal Scientist will identify and pursue strategic scientific opportunities for NBE Pharmacokinetic impact within the highly innovative New Biological Entities (NBE) preclinical research portfolio as DDS Lead in close partnership with global project team collaborators. They will represent the pharmacokinetic discipline on multi-disciplinary drug discovery project teams and integrate pharmacokinetic and biomeasure considerations into team strategy. They will champion innovative conceptual and technology goals to enhance NBE discovery portfolio project strategies and decision making. Will effectively plan PK and PK/PD experimental designs and communicate results to achieve ambitious portfolio timelines and goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

•    Independently designs and performs scientific experiments with a predefined goal including developing new methodologies, protocols and or test procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge; direct and oversee experimental design and results of staff in a matrixed environment.  Support Oncology, Immunology, Cardiometabolic TAs and more
•    Contributes to defining R&D team goals and collaborates with scientists within and outside functional area in achieving them; Assumes departmental responsibility as representative on multiple project teams as DDS Lead and contributes to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals. Positively impacts project strategy and decision making using working knowledge of NBE bioanalytical, PK, and PK/PD modeling expertise
•    Prepares clear technical reports, external publications and oral presentations. Independently communicates results in the form of reports and/or presentations; Deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals
•    Demonstrates expertise in a specific project-relevant area or technology; provides guidance and expertise to advance specific projects or evaluate and propose new technologies and concepts in support of multiple projects
•    Effectively collaborates with scientists within and outside functional area (e.g. therapeutic area biologists, protein engineering scientists)
•    Demonstrates collaborative excellence in a highly matrixed, virtual work environment
•    Develops broad knowledge in field of expertise, including the ability to interpret current literature relevant to R&D projects, and visibility outside of functional area
•    Actively supports recruitment, mentorship and development of scientific staff
•    Complies with all applicable regulations; ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies
•    Contributes to departmental administration; demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel

Requirements

•    Ph.D. from an accredited institution, or equivalent, with five-plus (5+) years of experience in a related field or equivalent (pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, biology, pharmaceutical sciences)
•    One (1) to three (3) years´ experience leading employees and projects is required
•    Demonstrates a broad knowledge of drug discovery. 
•    Candidate possesses strong practical knowledge of NBE pharmacokinetic principles including design and interpretation of PK studies, ligand binding assays and biodistribution concepts. 
•    Prior research experience in oncology, immunology, and/or cardio-metabolic diseases desirable; supporting these indications on cross-functional project teams. 
•    Preclinical PK/PD modeling experience highly desirable.
•    Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations
•    Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an interdisciplinary environment

Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
• Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
• Must be 18 years of age or older

Compensation Data

This position offers a base salary typically between $140,000 and $222,000.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements.  For an overview of our benefits please click here.
